Abstract

This study aims to reflect on the relationship between tourism and municipalities with less than twenty thousand inhabitants. The reflections come from the 65 inductors destinations in Brazil, paying particular attention to the ten small municipalities of this list. The analyzes presented are based on data published by IBGE, Ipea, Transparency Portal and Ministry of Tourism. The results indicate that the small municipalities are relevant in the dynamization of national tourism and the numbers generated by tourism, especially those related to jobs, are determinant in the economy of some municipalities of small demographic size.
