Abstract

This research covers the historical trajectory of the Education for Youth and Adults (EYA) in Brazil seeking to understand, in the perspective of the logic of neoliberal capitalism, the great challenges and prospects of this type of education. From the literature revision, it was found that the several dimensions of education, because of class differentiation, are produced within contradictions and conflicts, which take specific points into account in their historical and social formations, according to the scientific and technical evolution of the instruments of production, and even the meaning of literacy in adult education goes far beyond the comprehension of linguistic signs, turning into a perspective of change and transformation of life.
