Abstract

A greenhouse experiment was carried out to study the effect of soil pH, Zn rates, and soil type on Zn availability to corn. A completely randomized design in a factorial arrangement 3x4x3 (soil x pH x Zn rate) was used. The soils were classified as Acrustox, Haplustox, and Ultipsamment. The soil pH (CaCl2) values (original, 4.9, 5.9, and 6.4) were obtained through the application of CaCO3 and MgCO3. Zn rates (0, 5 e 10mg kg-1) were supplied with ZnSO4. The available Zn was extracted with the solutions DTPA, Mehlich-1, Mehlich-3, and HCl. The increase of soil pH affected dry matter yield and Zn contents of corn. Despite of a correlation between Zn extracted from soils and Zn absorbed by plants, Zn extractant solutions were not sensitive to the reduction of Zn availability caused by soil pH increase, excepting DTPA
