Abstract

Substrates for plant development of Dendrobium nobile Lindl. (Orchidaceae) orchid seedlings were assessed during the acclimatization phase. The seedlings were transplanted immediately after being removed from flasks where they had been sown in vitro. Five substrates were used, which made the treatments: T1: de-fibered fern; T2: vermiculite + carbonized rice husk (1:1); T3: vermiculite; T4: vermiculite + plantmax (2:1); and T5: plantmax + charcoal + ground extruded polystyrene (1:1:1). The survival rate (TS), canopy (PA) and root size (CR) pseudo-bulb diameter (DB) total fresh weight (PF) number of sprouts (NB) and roots (NR) were assessed. The survival rate was not influenced by the treatments. The mean tests showed that there was greater development in the plants in the T1 treatment but the T4 and T5 treatments also gave good results regarding the PA, PF and NR variables
