Abstract

Nowadays family care has been one of the most important focus of nursing studies.This article presents data found in a research developed on patients and caregivers assisted by Post-discharge Service in Casa de Saúde of Santa Maria, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, that aimed to identify some characteristics of patients and caregivers according to the familiar dynamic and culture. This is a descriptive exploratory research. For the data collect a semi-structure questionnaire was applied to twenty patients and their domiciliary caregivers. In addition, these patients were observed during the visits. Descriptive statistical analysis of the data was utilized as well as the thematic analysis proposed by Minayo (1993). Different types of domiciliary caregivers were identified, verifying the precarious social economic situation of the studied sample.

    Possui graduação em História Natural pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1972), graduação em Enfermagem pela Faculdade de Enfermagem Nossa Senhora Medianeira (1977), mestrado em Extensão Rural pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1994) e doutorado em Enfermagem pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (2000). Atualmente é professor adjunto ii da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria.
