Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to compare the kidney length in rats obtained by ultrasound and pachimeter. Length measurement was taken from 36 kidneys of 18 208-grams-average-weight Wistar male adult rats. The measurements were taken by two observers. The average values obtained by observer 1 and 2 through ultrasound were, respectively 1.92 cm / 1.92cm for the right kidney and 1.91 cm and 1.92 cm for the left kidney. This difference is not significant. The average values obtained through ultrasound and pachimeter by observer 1 were 1.92 cm for the right kidney and 1.80cm for the left kidney. This difference is significant. The conclusion is that the rat kidney length obtained through ultrasound is higher that the one observed by pachimeter.
