Aimed to investigate the care offered to children infected with HIV / AIDS. Exploratory and descriptive research, with qualitative approach, carried out in the pediatric clinic of a public hospital of infectious diseases in reference to AIDS in Fortaleza. The informants were 17 caregivers of children infected by HIV / AIDS outpatient waiting in the hospital. Data collection occurred during the months of february to may 2009, through semistructured questionnaire on socioeconomic status, where to draw the profile of carers. After description of the data, these were analyzed, emerging themes: Children with HIV need care, Caregiver assistance for children with HIV, Children with HIV and prejudice and is difficult to care for the child with HIV, but my son is a normal child. It was noted that several factors influence the care of children with HIV, but that caregivers seek to improve the quality of their lives, considering them as normal, despite the stigmas set by society.
