Abstract

The expansion and the maintenance of the Brazilian territorial integrity since colonial times motivated the peculiar shaping of the Brazilian State, which in its Lusitanian roots occurred prior to and independently of the idea of nation. This premise turned into a particular topic in our historical evolution prior to the trajectories of Hispanic countries. It also stimulated the hegemonic pretensions of Brazil in the subcontinent.
