This work characterizes and discusses experiences considered remarkable by young scientists who developed scientific initiation in high school, based on photographs, memories and narratives. Fourteen interlocutors participated, they developed junior scientific initiation in different Brazilian contexts and from all regions. Through a questionnaire and an interview, they were provoked to reflect on remarkable experiences when doing research in basic education and share a photograph that represented them. A Discursive Textual Analysis of the interviews was carried out, and also discussed with collective memory and ethnography of duration. Among photographs and narratives about the research at the school, the interlocutors state: “I found ways” (involving people, support, spaces and expansion of borders), “I went and did it” (attributing meanings to the trajectory), “I felt validated” (by awards or by people) and “I felt powerful” (felt that they matter, fulfilled a duty and redefined concepts about themselves). Thus, this work contributes to delve into narratives of young scientists that are generally not known only from photographic records, and, thus, to the elaboration of teaching and learning processes based on the demands and subjective constitution of students.
