Abstract

In this study we addressed the history and origin of the Gypsies, in order to understand the presence of Gypsy people in Uberlândia-MG. We discuss the history of this people, with the persecutions they suffered, and the preconceived notions that are related. In the discussion, we pointed out the participation of Gypsies in social life in the world and especially in Uberlândia-MG, indicating the reasons why the city is a reference point for these people.
