ITAIPU BINATIONAL: IMPLEMENTATION, SOCIAL, TERRITORIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

Abstract

The hydroelectric power station Itaipu Binacional influences the western area of the State of Paraná, precisely in the bordering municipal districts, (with territorial areas that were flooded for the formation of the reservoir of Itaipu and now they possess their limits confronting with the same), those influences are the object of this article. Due to the flood, the municipal districts receives royalties distribution originating from of the profits of the generation and commercialization of the energy, creating a significant financial movement in the public safes of these municipalities. Combined with this financial contribution, Itaipu Binacional develops in the territorial area of the Basin of Paraná 3, the social-environmental program denominated Cultivating Good Water, composed by 20 subprograms divided in 69 actions, that generate the ordination and territorial realignment, turning it into an active agent of that process. In view of that, it intends to prove this originator action, as well as demonstrate its territorial and socio-environmental reflexes.

  • Dalésio OSTROVSKI, Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná.
    Graduado em Geografia (Bacharel e Licenciado) pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1999). Mestrado em Geografia (Análise Ambiental) pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (2002). Doutor em Geografia pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (2013). Tem experiência na área de Geografia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Geografia, Geopolítica, Responsabilidade Socioambiental, Climatologia e Turismo. Atualmente atua como professor na UTFPR - Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, com regime de Dedicação Exclusiva, desenvolvendo atividade de ensino, pesquisa e extensão nos cursos de Engenharia Ambiental e Gestão Ambiental.
