Abstract

The Municipal Atlas are quite relevant to the study and understanding of geographical space, because they lead through graphical representations and conceptual models to understand the organization of space and the relationships that occur over/under him. In this context, the general objective of this paper is: identify the contribution of Geographic Atlas of the County of Quevedos/RS for geographic education, and analyze the knowledge of residents about the place. With respect to the methodological procedures, the principle theoretical research on the Teaching of Geography, Cartography School and the Geographic Area has been performed. From this it was built and applied to educators and residents of the municipality structured interviews to verify the contribution of Atlas and knowledge of the city, respectively. It was concluded that there is a high level of unfamiliarity of local realities by its residents and that the construction of a Municipal Geographic Atlas innovation enables educators and student engagement with the geographical knowledge of form and dynamics, because the material enables to work with the reality of the students and makes teaching practices become more consistent with their experience.
