Abstract

The non-neurotic psychopathologies, category described by André Green, are characterized by problems in the constitution of the self, basically involving a narcissistic frailty, failures on symbolization processes, and the tendency to acting out and to compulsion, without the use of psychic elaboration, and predominance of an economy of trauma related to the jouissance2 and drive excess. The manifestations of those psychopathologies are somatizations, panic disorder, addictions, eating disorders, borderline states, and depression. Green believes that the death drive, understood from the process of disinvestment of objects or deobjectifying function, would be a fundamental concept for understanding non-neurosis. From the Freudian theory, it is possible to establish a relationship between non-neurosis and obsessive neurosis, considering the use of similar defensive mechanisms and the remarkable role of the death drive, still assuring the importance of unconscious infantile sexuality as the predominant etiologic factor.
