Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze penalty throw in water polo. Six young water polo players with age ranging from 15 to 17 were recorded in the sagital plane by a SVHS camera positioned underwater. Subjects were marked in specific landmarks. The results were: hip displacement presented by the athletes ranged from 0,15m to 0,29m; the subject that showed the greatest hip displacement: at the moment of the last thrust changed the timing, advancing the knee extension that happens just after the first knee extension, showed larger range of knee extension and higher values of horizontal foot speed; showed feet movement pattern in curved paths. This is in agreement with the literature and so these variables should be used as a tool for the learning process, also helping injuries prevention.
