Effects of dance and weight training on elderly mood states

Different types of exercise can cause different mood states on the practitioner. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Dance and Weight Training (WT) on mood states (MS) in older people. By using questionnaire, it was analyzed the MS of twenty eight participants (mean age = 61.89 years) during both Dance and WT pre and post sessions. All the participants performed both activities in separate days with each session during one hour. The common variable for both activities was the musical selection. Through the Binomial Test it was possible to verify that the WT activity changed positively a larger number of MS when compared to Dance activity. The mechanisms through which the WT had a larger improve when compared to Dance need further studies.Downloads
