Leadership profile: An analysis in sport training and competition context

This study analyzed the leadership profile from collective and individual sports coaches in training and competition, verifying the relation with teams’ final performance in the Jojup’s and Jap’s/2005. Were part of the study 345 subjects (athletes and coaches) from the city of Maringá-PR who answered the Leadership Sport Scale (LSS) by Chelladurai (1978). Descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney test were used. The results showed that in the comparison between collective and individual sports’ athletes perception significant statically differences were found in the dimensions feedback (p ≤ 0,0000), democratic (p ≤ 0,0000) and autocratic (p ≤ 0,0062), therefore collective sports’ coaches use more autocratic behaviors, while in the individual sports more democratic and feedback behaviors occurred. For the coaches leadership stiles between training and competition significant differences were found (p ≤ 0,0336) in the social support dimension, being, in better positioned teams this kind of behavior were less used by their coaches.Downloads
