Women's body representation in Claudia magazine in 2006: description of a restricted production

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to comprehend how the magazine Claudia produces the woman’s body image representation in its covers, trough analysis of their own headlines’ content. The research was characterized as a qualitative approach concerning the production of Claudia’s magazine which displays at the second place in sales and it is directed to the female public. Were analyzed 81 (eighty one) register units related to the body’s image representation production, arranged in categories and sub-categories, presented on the structure of synoptic boards. The results found allowed to conclude that Claudia magazine just operates the legitimating of the dominant body’s representation in the social space and the techniques that are necessary to conquest this legitimacy. So, it deals with a restricted production, thus the producers are yield to do always the same thing, as a result of a closing effect, of limitations, highly naturalized.
