Obesity in children and teenarges attending the fundamental school from the urban zone of Cianorte city- State of Paraná

Abstract

This research was based on a descriptive approach and had as general purpose to verify the obesity prevalence of children and adolescents attending the fundamental school in Cianorte city. A total of 1178 students were chosen at random, reaching 30 % of the total students from each school. A Plenna scale, a tape measure and a skin fold caliper (Cescorf) were used for collecting the data (weight, height, as well as the triceps and underscapular skinfolds measurements). These data allowed us to conclude that 24.3% of the children and adolescents can be classified as obese subjects. This occurs due to both their nutrition of poor quality and the time they spend in front of the TV every day.
