A influência da pedagogia norte-americana na educação em Sergipe e na Bahia: reflexões iniciais

Abstract

The Protestantism was able to acquire grounds from the 19th century, when European and North-American immigrants arrived, from missions of the so-called historical denominations – Methodists, Congregationals, Presbyterians and Baptists. As a strategy for penetration, Presbyterians tried to grasp the modus vivendi of Brazilian folk, from which point they develop a plan whose decisive factor would be education, used as the most important tool for the propagation of the ideals of a Christian Civilization molded from Protestantism. This study intends to analyze the manners how the educational project proposed by the Presbyterians has worked as a means for the propagation and consolidation of doctrinal principles.
