Abstract

The oviposition preference to Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) biotype-B in cowpea genotypes was evaluated. The research was carried out at Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias e Veterinárias/UNESP, Jaboticabal Campus, São Paulo State, Brazil in greenhouse, in free and no-choice tests. It was utilized in free choice test a cage covered with voil textile, containing one plant of each genotype and in no-choice test each cage contained one plant for genotype. Canapu was the most preferred for oviposition in free choice test (41,1 eggs/cm² of leaf). In no-choice test, Cariri Hilo Preto genotype was the most preferred (4,3 eggs/cm² of leaf), while Cariri Hilo Vermelho exhibited the smallest number of eggs (0,6 eggs/cm² of leaf). The oviposition preference index classified Canapu, Sempre Verde and Cariri Hilo Preto as stimulant and the others genotypes as neutral. None of genotypes evaluated showed deterrence as B. tabaci oviposition

Graduada em Engenharia Agronomica pela Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Ãrido (1995); Mestre em Agronomia/Produção Vegetal pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba (1999) e Doutora em Agonomia / Genética e Melhoramento de Plantas pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (2003). Atualmente é pesquisadora do CNPq / PRODOC na Universidade Federal da Paraíba.
