Abstract

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the biological characteristics and the capacity of 20 strains of Trichogramma pretiosum R. (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) to accept and develop through the eggs of Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidóptera: Noctuidae). The strains Lsg₁, Lsg₁₁ and Lsg₁₈ were more effective in parasitizing and developing through the eggs of S. frugiperda. The strains Lsg₁₁ and Lsg₁₈ presented a great aggressiveness and preference for the natural host even after having been developed for several generations in alternative host, Anagasta kuehniella Zeller.

Possui graduação em Licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Regional do Nordeste, atual Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB), em1987; Em 1995 concluiu o mestrado em Entomologia pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa e em 2001 concluiu o doutorado em Ciencias, com área de concentração em Entomologia pela Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz, Universidade de São Paulo. Atualmente é professor adjunto B da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba. Tem experiência na área de Zoologia, com ênfase em Bioecologia de insetos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: insecta, dengue, vetor, aedes aegypti e bioecologia Currículo Lattes
