Abstract

Metarhizium anisopliae is the better characterized entomopathogenic fungus. This mold attacks many insects that represent plagues of agriculture. The objective of this work was to analyse its vegetative development and sporulation in different medium composition. The vegetative growth was analysed by average of colony diameter of each strain in 15 days growth at 28oC in complete medium, Saboraud medium and potato-dextrose-agar (PDA). A fragment of each colony was transferred to 0,01% Tween 80 and counted in hemocitometer, to sporulation evaluation. The vegetative growth was better in Saboraud medium. The sporulation was higher in complete medium for three strains and another three responded better to PDA. These results have indicated that the environmental factors interfere, in a particular manner, in each moment of Metarhizium cycle. This study justifies more researches about genetic and environmental mechanisms that control development of this fungus.
