Abstract

Many edible mushrooms have been used with therapeutic purpose. Brazilian agriculture is beginning mushroom cultivation mainly because of its anticancer properties. The antitumoral effects of this fitotherapics may be due to immunomodulation capacity of the mushroom tea. Many publications have reported this properties about different species. One of them, A. blazei, the popular Sun Mushroom, is cultivated in Brazil with the purpose of anticancer therapy. A.blazei has been reported because its antitumoral properties and, more recently, antimutagenic effects. The aim of this work was to test the antimutagenic potential of A.blazei in methionine system in Aspergillus nidulans. The method consists of a treatment for 12 hours of biA1methG1 strain conidia with 2.5% aqueous extract of mushroom, prepared at room temperature. The results have shown an increase of conidia viability and a decrease of mutation frequency in treatment plates, when compared to control. The present data are indicative of antimutagenic effect of Agaricus extract.
