Abstract

The influence of cotton genotypes on oviposition preference of Alabama argillacea (Hübner, 1818) (Lepidóptera, Noctuidae) and Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas, 1851) (Hemiptera, Pentatomidae) and predatory capacity of this natural enemy were studied. The research was developed under greenhouse conditions, and the cotton genotypes used were CNPA Precoce 1, CNPA 9211-31, CNPA 9211-41 and GL2 GL3 in free choice and no choice tests. The average number of eggs laid by A. argillacea/leaf/genotype in free choice test ranged from 19.9 to 27.6 and from 14.1 to 17.3 in no choice test. The average number of eggs laid by P. nigrispinus in free choice test ranged from 8.5 to 29.6 in CNPA 9211-41 and GL2 GL3 genotypes, respectively. In no choice test, the female predators laid, on average, 45.8; 49.3; 51.7 and 56.0 eggs, in CNPA 9211-41, CNPA 9211-31, CNPA Precoce 1 and GL2 GL3 genotypes, respectively. The cotton genotypes did not show resistance to non-preference for oviposition to A. argillacea and they affected neither P. nigrispinus oviposition nor its daily predation on A. argillacea larvae
