Abstract

This paper has the aim to study the relationship of working conditions with the occupational stress presence, when the professional is submitted to a constant routine. It is a descriptive exploratory qualitative study in which 30 nurses, university professors, were interviewed from May to July of 2000. Data showed that most of the nurses reported to be coping with stress and they attributed it to several reasons: working conditions, couple or triple working shifts, financial questions, besides other working pressures such as: Master's degree, conflicting competitiveness and interpersonal relationship. We concluded that the activities developed by the professionals in its work atmosphere contribute to the stress presence, leading us to reflect on the importance of developing some health service in order to improve those workers' health physically and mentally, as well as their productivity compromising
