Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyze a problematization of the foundations of Brazilian literature in the nineteenth century, and the relationship established between literature and the nation, to propose a problematization about the presence of humor - as a literary structure, of reflection - among the authors that compose the Brazilian literature. In order to do this, by accepting the idea of intimate feeling, synchronic cutouts and an anthropophagic perspective, we propose to investigate whether it is possible to recognize in the national works, characterized by humor, traces of a dialogue with (1) literary traditions, authors and rhetoric related to humor, psychological, philosophical, or sociological aspects of the origin, manifestation, and achievements of humor, and (3) the possibility of this manifestation to express some characteristic trait of a particular historical period or particular culture.
