Pedagogical practice of physical education teachers: the contents and the pedagogical approaches

Abstract

This investigation’s general objective was to verify the contents and the pedagogical approaches used at elementary school as well as to identify the main characteristics of the teachers’ pedagogical practice and its relation with different proposals for the initial formation. An exploratory descriptive study was conducted with sixty-three teachers, forty-six from state schools and seventeen from private schools. The results show that most teachers prioritize the teaching of sports in their classes, despite the fact that they work with diversified contents; in the recently graduated teachers’ classes, the contents related to physical activity and health were highlighted.
