Resumen

El presente manuscrito se refiere a la traducción del texto introductorio del Routledge Handbook of Physical Cultural Studies, una colección editada por Michael Silk (Universidad de Bournemouth, Inglaterra), David L. Andrews (Universidad de Maryland, Estados Unidos) y Holly Thorpe (Universidad de Waikato, Nueva Zelanda). Esta obra está compuesta por 58 capítulos, sistematizados en nueve secciones, con un total de 610 páginas en inglés, que reúnen a 89 investigadores de diferentes países, con el objetivo de presentar el estado del arte de Physical Cultural Studies/PCS (Estudios Culturales Físicos). Como despliegue de los Estudios Culturales Británicos y como complemento de la Sociología del Deporte, los PCS se ocupan de identificar, comprender e intervenir en las relaciones de poder materializadas en la compleja gama de expresiones de la cultura física (como los deportes, el fitness, las danzas, el ocio, entre otros), a partir de análisis contextuales de la fisicalidad atravessada por marcadores sociales de diferencia. Es a partir de esta introducción que se lanzan aspectos históricos, epistemológicos y metodológicos de los PCS y se presentan los esfuerzos para una definición de este campo. La introducción también incluye la sistematización del acto de ‘hacer PCS’, a través de ocho dimensiones (empírica, contextual, transdisciplinaria, teórica, política, cualitativa, autorreflexiva y pedagógica). Finalmente, con esta traducción, se espera favorecer el acceso de la comunidad académica brasileña al PCS, en sus aspectos fundamentales, a través de temas enfocados notablemente en el cuerpo y las relaciones y efectos del poder social que atraviesan la cultura física.

    Estudiante de doctorado en Educación Física por el Programa de Postgrado Asociado en Educación Física UEM / UEL, en el área de concentración Prácticas Sociales en Educación Física. Investigador visitante (2019-2020) en la Universidad de Maryland (EE. UU.), En la línea de Estudios Culturales Físicos. Máster en Educación Física por el mismo programa que realiza el doctorado (2016). Miembro del Grupo de Investigación Cuerpo, Cultura y Lúdico (GPCCL / DEF / UEM / CNPq).
