The article deals with the participation of the theme ‘public education’ in the pedagogical work of the Spanish educator Lorenzo Luzuriaga, seeking an understanding of the traces of his writing on the history of education that are given to see in his titles that are part of the Biblioteca del Maestro, organized collection by himself at Editorial Losada de Buenos Aires. Such traits are thought fundamentally from the analysis of the book Historia de la educación pública, published in 1946, and also through the investigation of Luzuriaga's intellectual trajectory. The adopted procedures try to provide possible answers to the representations assumed by a notion dear to his professed adhesion to New Education, that of the state prerogative in the organization of education, taking as an observation angle one of the representative works of his way of writing the history of education. The results of the investigation point to the framing of the theme from the perspective of internationalism that was gaining strength with the end of the Second World War and the creation of global institutions, such as the United Nations.
